While the idea for the project has been gestating for quite a while now, the current website was set-up on May 24, 2012. Why the MM in the name of the site, and the project to start with? You can think of it as a dedication to Prof. Marshall McLuhan’s legacy and its future, thus to anything in the vicinity of Media Technologies, Culture, and Communication–in (and about) the New Millennium or, indeed, about any historical period…

As to the qualifier “unlocked,” close to mind, it stands for understanding Prof. McLuhan as well as expanding his vision. Equally importantly, doing so without geographical, historical, or intellectual constraints.  Thus, “unlocked” stands, above all, for epistemological freedom, i.e., freedom to know, think, and learn, in this case, about the areas of interest mentioned above.

Prof. McLuhan is known to have quipped “I have no theory!”; “I don’t explain, I explore!” This inspired the blog motto: “Explore–whether you theorize or not!” The parenthetic –multivocally, multilingually– expresses the wish for this project to give voice to many schools/scholars, in their multiple languages.

STANDING INVITATION is issued for:

  • post contributors (to be registered and announced on the blog), and
  • comment contributors (click to post a comment, and follow the steps: email and name required for registration).

The projected format is very much like an officially published email list content. Brief presentations and discussions of ideas on the targeted topics are welcome! These can include, but are not limited to, essayistic/analytical posts, book reviews, announcements of events, recent/upcoming publications, projects, and similar.

Looking forward to how it all evolves 🙂
